TWAS December 15
Hello Everyone,
High fives for your little ones as they were amazing sports throughout this extremely unconventional week! The Wednesday show turned out great; the community walk was beautiful; we enjoyed night 'B's' performance; club Friday was a blast and now we're ready to return to our regular routine for one more 2017 school week!
Despite all of the moving around we did manage to fit a lot of academics in, but I'll keep it brief as I know how busy everyone is.

- We finished our master writing good copy monster descriptions and delivered them to Dr. George Stanley. Apparently the artists have been working on their monster drawing skills and were very excited to have our work arrive. They want to spend a decent amount of time on it so we won't be seeing the final results until the new year.
- Parts of story: character, setting, theme, plot and point of view
- Drama: working with plot through reenactments of The Boy Who Cried Wolf (thank you so much to Caeden's mom for being such a great sport and jumping right in with a group of our actors)
- Daily 5
MATH:
- Mental math practice with doubles and anchor numbers
- Math problems – this week's problems were challenging for sure. It wouldn't hurt to have your child work through them again with you this weekend if you have time, or even let them watch you show off your estimation skills.
-
Estimate how many Mondays there are until New Year’s Day. Don’t forget to show how you came up with your estimation and then check how accurate your estimation was using a calendar.
- Estimate how many jumping jacks you can do in 30 seconds. Don’t forget to show how you came up with your estimation. After you have finished with your estimation check to see if the actual answer is close to your estimation. Count how many jumping jacks you can do in 30 seconds. Do this 3 times to see if the answers change. If they change write why you think they changed.
- Estimate how many chair legs are there are in our classroom (we have 5 extra chairs). Don’t forget to show how you came up with your estimation. Count the chair legs three times (silently with tally marks). How many chair legs are in our classroom? Was your estimation close?
- Math fact families
- Regrouping with units and rods
SCIENCE:
- New science words (ask how a caterpillar helped with this one)
- transparent
- translucent
- opaque
SOCIALS:
- VENN DIAGRAMS
- House/Home
- Child's habitat/creature's habitat

MUSIC: Rehearsals and concerts. Thank you so much Ms. Thomas and the wonderful singers/speakers and actors for a great show!!
Thank you so very very much parents who were able to join us for the community walk. I can't tell you how much the children enjoy these special times together, as do I.
Until next week,
Have a safe and wonderful weekend,
Mrs. McArthur
