TWAS March 16


Hello Everyone,

 Spring is in the air; you can sure feel it in room 73;  now we just need the weather to realize it as well!

We have started out on some new learning adventures this week; I'll let the student quotes fill you in.  Conferences are at the end of April 19th and 20th so, if possible, save the date because there is lots to share. 

We are still needing at least one more dad for swimming so please let me know if you are able; thank you so much to everyone who was able to get all of the forms back.

“This week at school we did drum fit in gym; it was really fun. We even got to make up our own dance.  There is going to be an assembly with some of the classes doing their dances.”  Brinn

“We wrote poetry and we listened to different sounds. It was really fun and I really liked it.”  Kyron

“This week was Chloe Ma’s birthday so we listened to the Beetles birthday song.  The last club Friday was really fun.  My Club was photography. We took pictures out of the windows of the classrooms because we couldn’t go outside because there was a coyote.” Coco

“We did water liquid and did some experiments with water.  It was very wet and fun too.  It was Chloe Ma’s birthday.  It was very fun that it was her birthday.”  Caeden

“We wrote stories about our monsters.  I like to do it because it is fun and it is hard to sometimes.  I like my story.  It is interesting I think.”  Emily

“We did TWAS and then we did our shamrocks.  We painted them with watercolours and we also did the background with yellow and green water colours.” Zurie


“We did drum fit.  We played this really cool song. I can’t remember what it was called but it was kind of like a leprechaun song. “  Golden


“We did Chloe Ma’s birthday.  In the morning we did a birthday song by the Beetles. In science we did some stuff about liquids. I like it because we got to drink our water in one station.”  Malika


“At school we did a dance party and in music our artist of the week was disco.  In gym we are doing drum.  You have big blue round balls and you bang on them with drum sticks to music.” Jericho

“This week at school we worked on our communities.  We used playdough and cans and we used can tabs.  We had to use our science experiment cups in our communities so we didn’t throw them in the garbage, so we could recycle them. At school we voted for the yearbook cover and we could vote only for four.” Camilla

“We did intramurals at lunch on Wednesday.  I didn’t go but I wanted to talk about it in the blog.“  Xander

“Today we have an assembly.  The kids will be performing something; I don’t know what but I will see it when I go there, and that’s all.”  Carson

“In intramurals we played hockey and it was lots of fun.  There were two teams on each side of the nets and there were no goalies.” Chloe Ma

“We had intramurals and we did hockey.  One side had three nets and the other side had two nets.  I really liked it.”  Riley

“It was Chloe Ma’s birthday and it was a fun day that day.”   Noah

“We are about to go to an assembly and Ms. Redwood, MacEwan and Overdevest’s classes are performing.  I like going to assemblies because I think they are really fun.”  Tate

“Someone took our art rack and that was kind of weird. We did poetry and poetry is pretty fun. I like poetry because you can do funny handwriting, capitals whenever you want and punctuation wherever you want” James.


Genre of the Week


The Rolling Stones:

Often in competition with The Beatles over “greatest band of all time”, The Rolling Stones left their own mark on the brit-rock world and well as the international rock and roll scene. They played a vital roll in the “blues-rock” movement created by fellow English bands that helped bring the blues into the mainstream.

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all off to a wonderful weekend start! It was lovely to meet with so many families over the last week during our community walk, picnic and at 'meet the teacher.' As the children settle into their routines we are finding our days whizzing by and the children's morning endurance seems to be strengthening daily. We will start rotating through math stations next week so we spent quite a bit of time working with math problems, as they tend to be the math station that requires the most "mastery" (mastery was our circle of courage focus this week; please ask your little one to explain his/her understanding of this tricky concept). The children are learning to be patient with themselves as they learn the skill of breaking down math problems and using their tools to work with the information they are given. Hello Everyone, Wow what a wild, fast and wonderful week!  The days flew by and already the children are in the thick of leaning.  One of us stated, at the beginning of TWAS, "Mrs. McArthur what can we even write about; we've only been here four days," and then they proceeded to fill up three pages with the week's events.  So here is some of what was on those pages: We began the week with activities and discussions that focused on belonging.  Where we see it, why we need it, when we feel it, when we don't and why it is so important in our class and out in the community. We also talked a bit about our class rule:  kindness.  I will let them explain why we only need one rule, how everything (even signing out for the bathroom) relates back to kindness. On this path we also set up our Circle of Courage and began our recognition of Random Acts of Kindness, of which we saw many this week. TWAS April 27

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the amazing weather!! I'm sorry to report that with clubs, assembly and finishing up tasks we completely ran out of time for quotes.  The children all did write and bring home their TWAS letters. The weather was so beautiful that we were able to enjoy much of our math outside this week.  We rotated through stations, addition and subtraction regrouping with chalk on the compound; graphing the compound geometric shapes, chalk drawings of geometric shapes and building structures with 3D objects.  The children also independently completed the following 2 math problems (all grade 2's completed the same problems and 73 did very well): Our class had 27 pencils and then Mr. Scout gave us 18 more.  How many pencils do we have now? I have 24 marbles. Some are blue, some are red, some are white. There are two more blue marbles than white. What combinations of marbles could I have? ...
