Grade 2 Room 73 Team

Hello Everyone, It looks like it's going to be a beautiful weekend; enjoy every second! It's been a great week with lots happening in 73.  Everyone worked so hard on a very special project that I know will be enjoyed on Sunday.  Have a kleenex box at the ready! Here are some snippets from this week's learning: Our math focus has been geometry and friendly numbers.  Challenge your little one to make the following equation 'friendly' and answer it:  28 + 39 = ?  We also created patterns using object and shape attributes.  There were some very creative designs. A message from Ms. Thomas as per: Hello Families: This Monday, May 7th, the Grades 1/2 and Grade 3 choirs will be performing for our Music Monday assembly. If your child is in choir, please feel free to join us for the celebration at 10:30.  In addition, if your child is in the Grade 3 choir, they have been tasked with making a tinfoil space helmet. Hello Everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the amazing weather!! I'm sorry to report that with clubs, assembly and finishing up tasks we completely ran out of time for quotes.  The children all did write and bring home their TWAS letters. The weather was so beautiful that we were able to enjoy much of our math outside this week.  We rotated through stations, addition and subtraction regrouping with chalk on the compound; graphing the compound geometric shapes, chalk drawings of geometric shapes and building structures with 3D objects.  The children also independently completed the following 2 math problems (all grade 2's completed the same problems and 73 did very well): Our class had 27 pencils and then Mr. Scout gave us 18 more.  How many pencils do we have now? I have 24 marbles. Some are blue, some are red, some are white. There are two more blue marbles than white. What combinations of marbles could I have? ...

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all enjoying a bit of that warmer sun that is finally poking through!  I know all of us in 73 are really wanting some spring warmth to play in :) We have had an exciting week.  The children loved getting their monster illustrations and letters from Dr. George and we have them up on display and ready to share with you next week at conferences.  The children are all also very excited to have started creating websites (on their secure CBE Google accounts) for their super cool communities.  We have also been very busy with science experiments, geometry, poetry work, narrative and persuasive writing, in addition to some great phys-ed and music classes.  We hope you enjoy this week's student quotes (posted below) and TWAS letters that went home in the blue folders.
