Hello Everyone, Happy Friday! It sounds like the Halloween Howler was a great time; what a wonderful event the parent volunteers put together.  The children love seeing their friends and friends' families in these types of social settings. Our morning at school was jam packed today:  we enjoyed a fantastic assembly, there was singing, reader's theatre and even some 'dancing.'We practiced singing in music, played some coordination games in gym, and worked to finish up our halloween art building. This week felt like a very full work week, as the students are starting to push their skills a little further.  We have begun paragraph writing, and working to connect ideas, while continuing to use descriptive language and remaining attentive to conventions. The children will be excited to show off their first writing projects next week during interviews.  While the interview are not student led, the students are welcome to join you.  Likewise, math books are already b

Hello Everyone, Happy Friday! It was wonderful to see so many of you last night.  The children were very excited to show off and share their Family Mail Centers, so it was fantastic that Cranston literacy night was able to find a spot in so many of your busy family schedules! I hope that you were able to pull some useful information from some of the other centers as well.  For all who were unable to make it, your children built and brought home a "family mail center" that they made.  The idea is that, by writing and receiving family notes, the children have an opportunity to build on and practice their literacy in a fun and purposeful way.  They are encouraged to be as creative as possible.  At the end of this post is a poster that explains how this activity connects to Alberta Ed program of studies and report card STEMS. This week the children put on some brilliant performances of The Three Little Pigs . They performed in groups of 4 in the hub with big booming voices,

Hello Everyone, I hope that you all have had a fun, if fast, week! As always, it has been a hopping week around here that ended in a successful and wonderful club Friday.  All of the students confidently and independently headed off to their clubs and returned with lots of smiles and fun club stories to tell. This week in Language arts we continued to work on strong sentence writing and oral storytelling.  The students pulled from the memory, fact and imagination portions of their brain pocket to create some very exciting Thanksgiving tales. We also worked on the performance part of storytelling with a bit of charades.  Our science inquiry projects are continuing to come together and the students are beginning to use rubrics to assess their own work. I really impressed with the honesty and desire to revisit work, after these self-assessments.  Thank you everyone who was able to help fill out the family/name history sheets that went home last week.  It has been so fun to see a

Hello Everyone, I hope you have had a great week, and that this giant harvest moon hasn't been shaking things up too much in your homes; I can't confirm the correlation but just saying . . . it has been a little extra chatty around here! The children are very excited about the long weekend.  There has been a lot of talk about turkey dinners and family visits.  I have attached some beautiful artwork, and thoughtful messages of thanks, that your little ones created after discussions about harvest and 'thankfulness.'  It was also a very exciting week in gym as the parachute was out and lots of fun teamwork games were played.  In math the children were presented with some challenging pattern tasks, such as the following:  You have 6 red blocks, 3 blue blocks, 3 green blocks and 3 orange blocks.  Create a pattern where the core repeats three times and no blocks are left over.  I was extremely impressed with demonstrations of fantastic teamwork and very impressive res
