TWAS March 23

Hello Everyone, I hope all of your little ones are loving the first day of their much deserved break!!! I'm sorry to report that we were so busy yesterday that there wasn't time to get everyone's quotes.  I'll do my best to sum up the details with a short and sweet post. Artist of the week: In the week following spring break, we will be exploring a variety of impactful artists with an Indigenous background.  This includes, but is not limited to:  Robbie Robertson and The Band, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and the Link Wray. (Ms. Thomas) Language Arts: Most of the first draft monster narratives are complete so we focused on writer's workshops.  thesaurus day — this was soooo much fun.  Ask your little one about the 5 words they were able to replace.  We will definitely be doing more of this workshop! make the words so descriptive that it sounds like poetry (re-write a section of the story with a friend) Our work with poetry continues . . .  descriptive sen

Hello Everyone,  Spring is in the air; you can sure feel it in room 73;  now we just need the weather to realize it as well! We have started out on some new learning adventures this week; I'll let the student quotes fill you in.  Conferences are at the end of April 19th and 20th so, if possible, save the date because there is lots to share.  We are still needing at least one more dad for swimming so please let me know if you are able; thank you so much to everyone who was able to get all of the forms back.  One of our math problems from the week is below the quotes and please also enjoy the picture of this week's 'Irish' luck art :) “This week at school we did drum fit in gym; it was really fun. We even got to make up our own dance.   There is going to be an assembly with some of the classes doing their dances.”   Brinn “Drum fit was fun because we got to play tag.”   Lincoln “We wrote poetry and we listened to different so

Hello Everyone, I hope that you are all well and ready to enjoy some spring-like weather :) We have had an extremely creative week here at Cranston.  I was at a professional development (mental health in school-age children.  It was a great session and I am happy to share details with anyone interested) today so don't have quotes with your little ones from their TWAS' so will do my best to keep the week's summary short and sweet for you. Science:  As we finish up our unit on magnetism the children have created and begun to perform non-verbal plays that teach a particular concept from the unit.  This has proved to be quite challenging but everyone has been extremely welcoming of constructive criticism and next steps are to fine tune the 'productions' so as to really get those concepts out to the audience.  We are hoping to perform for Ms. Boutilier's class next week. Socials:  We have begun to design communities.  Each student has his/her own plot of land

Hello All, I hope that everyone is safe and sound as we endure/enjoy (depending on your perspective haha) yet another very wintery day! It has been such an amazing week.  I will let the following student quotes speak to our many activities, and have asked the children to expand on these memories with you when they get home.  A couple of highlights to ask them about:  the amazing trip to Dr. George to meet the monster artists (the cards that your children made are pictured below; so much work and love went into them); community building (what do communities need to have to make humans happy and how can you incorporate that knowledge into a creative urban community design); performing key magnetism concepts, non verbally, through drama.  A request:  Our class is hoping to create a type of welcome wall in Cranston School.  Our goal is to write hello in every language that is spoken in Calgary so that every family that enters our school feels welcome.  We know
