Hello Everyone, I hope you are all enjoying this amazing November weather!  It certainly made for some nice recesses. As the children may of shared with you, I was absent this morning but when I returned for the afternoon PD, I was so pleased to walk into our classroom and find a huge note from the guest teacher saying how enjoyable her morning was and that the children made her feel so very welcome.  Way to go 73; you really are a beautiful group of kind and thoughtful people :)  I also head that they enjoyed a fantastic live band performance, and that clubs went very well.  I'll let them elaborate on that. We have been doing a lot of work with the writing process.   Learning to brainstorm, organize and transition through ideas and engage with audience. Our goal over the last two weeks has been to spend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday organizing and planning for a piece of writing, then put it all together into an organized reflection on Thursdays.  The children have each ch

Hello Families, It was great to see so many of you coming together to enjoy family movie night last night. The children were very excited; what a wonderful social event.  It is so important that the school is a part of the wider community so thank you so much for making that happen! I can't wait to hear all about it in the "over the weekend" reflections Monday morning :) I hope the children have been sharing their painting experiences with you.  As you probably know, we have been learning about colour in science, so for our Thursday art the children created a colour wheel.  Here's the thing, they were given only the three primary colours (tempera paint), 1 paint brush, a bowl of water, a napkin, a cleaning cloth to share with 2 friends and a colour wheel template.  They had to create all of the secondary and tertiary colours by blending with only those materials.  I thought that this was going to be extremely challenging (it was for me when I made the exemplar); o

Hello Everyone, I hope that you are all off to a great weekend start! Some of you were able to join us for our Remembrance Day ceremony and see first hand how committed your children were to this event.   They have been working so hard on their performances and wanted to make our special guests proud.   They certainly succeeded, I would say! In addition to today’s ceremony we have been having conversations about the significance of Remembrance Day, and symbols such as the poppy.   The children learned how to tea stain paper for an antique look and how to ‘paint with water.’ They then combined these techniques to create beautiful water colour poppies that sit, over ‘antiqued’ Flanders Fields poems.   Doves that carry messages of peace  were written by the children and accompany these beautiful art pieces. Our class wreath is a multi-medium compilation, created from mostly recycled materials.    They were a little tricky to make, but wow they turned out beautifully (pictures

TWAS November 3rd

Hello Everyone, Thank you so much for trudging your way through the snow to make it into conferences.  It was wonderful to meet with you all and share in the wonderful successes of your children.  As we continue on through our busy year, please know that I am always happy to meet with you if you have questions, concerns or just want to check in.  It is wonderful to have such a supportive family community for these little ones. Have a wonderful and safe wintery weekend! See you little ones Monday morning, Mrs. McArthur A note from Ms. Thomas: Artist of the Week: Aretha Franklin This week, we will be revisiting the sounds of soul and R&B. Raised in Tennessee, Aretha began her musical career as a gospel singer in her father’s church. Similarly to many soul singers of the time, Aretha took her gospel style and sounds and turned them secular, created the hits that we know and love today: Respect, Think, Natural Woman.
