TWAS June 8th

Hello Everyone,

It looks like another beautiful start to the weekend — it definitely was a perfect day for the water fundraiser.  The children had a great time; thank you so much for the support with this.

Also a HUGE thank you to the volunteers who made our last field trip of the year possible.  What a wonderful day.  We can't thank you enough!

We have an extremely busy and exciting couple of weeks ahead.  Our class has been gifted a Blackfoot Legend that we will be performing on the 21st (more to come on that).  We also learned that 73 has been given the great honour and responsibility of creating the new CBE system Acknowledgment of the Land video.  The film crew will be here filming on the 19th!

The children finished their beautiful artistic representations of the Tipi raising with Elder Clarence.  These visuals are paired with their one most powerful connection to the day.  The children then stitched their work onto 4 sunflower stalks — each stalk will be a gift of thanks for one of the knowledge keepers who has been working with us this year.  I have posted pictures below, but if you have not yet had a chance to view these beautiful pieces, please try to make a trip into the school before next Friday to get a proper look before they're gone.

We have also been creating legacy of kindness videos with our little buddies for the year end assembly . . . they are looking good!

The rest of the time has been dedicated to math (measurement/graphing/math facts), socials (communities of the past), Science (taste), a 'very' special project that shall be revealed at a later date and I'm sure a gazillion other things that I am missing.

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all off to a wonderful weekend start! It was lovely to meet with so many families over the last week during our community walk, picnic and at 'meet the teacher.' As the children settle into their routines we are finding our days whizzing by and the children's morning endurance seems to be strengthening daily. We will start rotating through math stations next week so we spent quite a bit of time working with math problems, as they tend to be the math station that requires the most "mastery" (mastery was our circle of courage focus this week; please ask your little one to explain his/her understanding of this tricky concept). The children are learning to be patient with themselves as they learn the skill of breaking down math problems and using their tools to work with the information they are given. TWAS April 27

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the amazing weather!! I'm sorry to report that with clubs, assembly and finishing up tasks we completely ran out of time for quotes.  The children all did write and bring home their TWAS letters. The weather was so beautiful that we were able to enjoy much of our math outside this week.  We rotated through stations, addition and subtraction regrouping with chalk on the compound; graphing the compound geometric shapes, chalk drawings of geometric shapes and building structures with 3D objects.  The children also independently completed the following 2 math problems (all grade 2's completed the same problems and 73 did very well): Our class had 27 pencils and then Mr. Scout gave us 18 more.  How many pencils do we have now? I have 24 marbles. Some are blue, some are red, some are white. There are two more blue marbles than white. What combinations of marbles could I have?   Science:

Hello 73 families, I hope that everyone is doing well and you all are starting to enjoy a bit more sun as our days slowly begin to get a little longer :) It's been a great week here at Cranston.  We had an unexpected practice lockdown yesterday and all of the children did extremely well. Please have a look in your child's blue folder as the field trip permission slips went home with them today.  We will be needing a few volunteers so if you are able, please let me know and I will send those forms home as well. We've had a number of guests join us.  Mr. Logan Sonnenberg is a Bachelor of Education student from the Mount Royal University who is joining us Tuesday mornings for his first year practicum. The children loved having him with us this week, and are looking forward to working with him over the next 10 weeks.  As a spelling bonus, Ms. Patton is joining us for two twenty minute periods each week for word work.
